She stands in the middle of the sea on a wrecked boat,
With a knife held an inch from her throat.
She wishes she could put it down,
But she knows she will still drown.
She knows not how to swim;
Neither can she scream.
As days pass, words haunt her, memories engulf,
Leaving her breathless, snatching away hope.

Now the knife has cut –
Keeping her alive while providing pain.
Drops of blood drip into the ocean,
Turning it scarlet.
People disguised as sharks see her as bait.
She has a choice; drown or cut deeper.
But she knows as clear as day
That this is not her fate.

She stands in the middle of the sea on a wrecked boat,
With the knife no longer near her throat.
She waits for the shore that she will soon reach,
So that one day she would be able to preach
About the days she continued hoping,
About the days she held on tight to faith
To alter her fate.
